Canva stamps a “©” watermark on premium stock elements when you export without a Pro subscription. Here’s exactly what it is, where it comes from, and your options for removing it.
Canva has two distinct tiers of content: free elements (photos, graphics, templates available to all users) and premium elements (marked with a crown icon) that require a Canva Pro subscription or a one-time purchase to use commercially.
When you use a premium element in a design and export it on the free plan, Canva does not block the export — instead, it allows the download but stamps the premium element with a small copyright watermark. This watermark typically appears as a small “©” symbol or text overlay directly on the element, signaling that you have not licensed it.
This is a deliberate design choice on Canva’s part: it lets you preview how your design would look with the premium element while making it clear the asset is not licensed for publishing. The watermark disappears automatically if you upgrade to Pro or purchase the element individually.
